In Old History, a pacifist order known as the Mailtaurs where praised as being the best healers in Rinehc. Sought out by commoners and kings alike, the Mailtaurs have numerous records of miraculous healings and even resurrections. At one time, many Mailtaurs where taken as slaves to powerful warlords and other vagabonds to conduct their powerful healing as commanded. A sect of the Mailtaurs, known as the Ruintaurs, learned to fight and tried to retrieve all of their enslaved brethren. The result was a trail of death that remains unequaled by such a small force. Eventually, as the Mailtaurs and Ruintaurs where on the verge of self-genocide, an unknown clan of mystics approached them and offered the gifts of balance and understanding.
This was the foundation for the Waurengard, a society of people known for both their ability to give life and their ability to take it away. Every Acolyte of Waurengard believes that in order to heal you must know how to harm in equivalent measure. They spend years training how to heal and how to fight and are sought out for both aspects. They ultimately serve their Mother/Father Healer – their leader that becomes attuned to the tribute known as the Veil of the Borderlife.
